Uday Kotak, Founder and Managing Director & CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank, has led the group in a broad range of financial services for over 30 years. Uday believes that the true measure of performance is value creation. The Group's vision for equitable prosperity extends beyond financial services. The Kotak Education Foundation works with some of India's most economically underprivileged communities, attempting to alleviate poverty through education and livelihood programs.

  • Increased reach by partnering with 57 new schools with over 1 lakh students (5% of school going children population of Mumbai).
  • Partnered with 5 Municipal schools for the first time.
  • Launched a digital literacy course, in partnership with the NIIT Foundation with the aim of positively impacting Unnati aspirants.

  • Added Beauty, IT, and Banking and Finance courses to our vocational training programme, Unnati.

  • Launched Nourish - the mid-day meal programme for students between the ages of 4 - 6 years and 14 - 16 years, those who are not covered by the mid-day meal programmes offered by the Government of India.
  • Started Apulki and Kilbil Parivar, initiatives of Parvarish, to help parents of children in pre-primary and primary classes.

  • Partnered with the ITM Group of Institutes, Khargar, to provide full scholarships for undergraduate courses for Excel students.
  • Introduced a test similar to the one conducted by ASER (Annual Status of Education Report) to sensitise teachers towards children who do not have grade level in literacy, numeracy skill sets.

  • Introduced the Primary Year Programme (PYP), a Guru initiative, to provide intensive training to primary class teachers
  • Started Kishori Friendly Centres for medical check-ups and counselling adolescent girls.

  • Extended the duration of Udaan to a 5 year programme.
  • Launched Nirmaan to address water, drainage and sanitation issues in some of our partner schools.

  • Launched Lead to coach and mentor school leaders to develop their leadership and managerial skills.
  • Started the Teacher Parent Partnership (TPP) to sensitize teachers and encourage parents to get more involved in their child’s development.

  • Launched Majhi Swachh Shaala (My Clean School), a Health initiative, to inculcate healthy personal hygiene habits amongst students.
  • Introduced Adhar Shila, self study classes for children who face difficulties studying at home, supervised by members of our Parents Action Committee.
  • Introduced Disha Kendra, counselling for children with behavioural issues.
  • Started counselling sessions for parents.

  • Launched Udaan – the hardship-scholarship programme for students who face extreme difficulties and hardships.

  • Started mid-day meals in 2 partner schools.
  • Introduced Kishori Sehat Abhiyan to address anaemia in adolescent girls.

  • Increased our partner schools to 15.
  • Extended the duration of Excel to become a 5 year programme and began supporting students for professional courses like Engineering and Medicine.
  • Partnered with the Niramaya Health Foundation to counsel students about adolescence as part of the program – Sparsh.

  • Partnered with KBH Bachooali Charitable Ophthalmic & ENT Hospital, Mumbai to extend eye check-ups to all students in partner schools.
  • Formed a Parents' Action Committee in all our partner schools to help solve the challenge of school drop outs and create awareness about the importance of education.

  • Kotak Education Foundation (KEF) was registered as a charitable trust and supported by Uday Kotak, Managing Director and CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd.
  • Partnered with 3 vernacular medium schools catering to children from underprivileged families.
  • Launched interventions – Umang, Excel, Guru, and Parvarish.
  • Partnered with Dr. Reddy's Lab to start vocational training centres in Bandra East and Panvel.

  • 5 people got together and aimed to create an organization that would empower the underprivileged through education.
